For years, a story has been growing in the background of my life, quietly at first, then louder, until it refused to be ignored. It followed me through the wreckage of my past, across continents, and into the heat and colour of India, China and Thailand, where I ended up running a charity and rebuilding a life I never expected to have.
That story is CRACKMASK.
It’s not fiction. It’s the truth about the decades I spent hiding behind the Buffoons mask I built myself. A mask I wore sometimes for show, but always for survival. That mask travelled with me through every version of my life, held together longer than it should have, and finally began to split in ways I couldn’t patch over anymore.
CRACKMASK is what leaked through those cracks.
It’s raw, sometimes dark, sometimes unexpectedly funny, and always real. Writing it has been a long, messy, necessary journey, one that’s still unfolding as I move toward publication in June 2026.

Quick note: In 1952, Eddie's parents, originally from Southport near Liverpool, travelled to Manchester where Eddie was born in a caravan shared with his three sisters. Through hard work, they eventually managed to slightly improve their situation, moving the family into a small mill-worker's house in Bolton, a coal-mining and cotton mill town in Lancashire, now part of Greater Manchester, UK.
Eddie grew up in Bolton until the age of 15. Following some devastating childhood trauma, he ran away from home and school to pursue what he now refers to as a "world traveller's life well lived."
